KP CM says Islamic reforms should be made under leadership of Samiul Haq

Islamic reforms in the country should be made under the leadership of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Sami (JUI-S) chief Maulana Samiul Haq.

These views were expressed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak on his visit to Samiul Haq’s seminary Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora. The CM also thanked Sami for supporting the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate in the Peshawar NA-4 by-election.

The chief minister visited various sections of the seminary including the under-construction portions where he was briefed about the progress of their development work. He described Sami as the elder of the province and lauded his efforts for reforming the curriculum of textbooks in the province.

He also underscored the need to take steps for reforming the curriculum as per the teachings of Islam. He added that government had included reading the Holy Quran in the curriculum from grade 6 through 12.

Khattak also said that the provincial government could not end interest-based banking system as all banks were under the federal government’s control. However, he added, the KP government had already declared interest as haram and any interest-based business to be illegal.

“We have started a crackdown on individuals involved in interest-based businesses,” he said, adding that preparations are underway to pass a law to ban dowry as it is against Islamic teachings.
