Education minister warns teachers to quit non-governmental jobs

KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Education and Literacy Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar on Monday warned those government teachers who were working in newspapers, electronic media or in any non-governmental organisations to quit their non-governmental responsibilities and pay full attention to teaching their respective students.

The minister warned that otherwise, strict action will be taken against them.

This he said while talking to media here in Sindh Assembly on Monday. He was of the opinion that the teachers doing jobs other than at schools were not only cheating with their profession but were also creating problems for deserving persons.

Mehtab further said, “Honourable high court has forbidden the teachers to work as journalists.” He also requested the owners of the newspapers, electronic channels and NGOs to dismiss government teachers from their organisations as it would be great service to the people of Sindh, and for the cause of education as well.

Meanwhile, the minister, while taking notice of the news that course books were being sold at junk shops in Badin district, has directed deputy commissioner and Badin education director to look into the matter and bring the elements to task who are involved in this crime.

He expressed his resentment that the precious course books were being sold at junk shops while they were meant to be used for teaching purpose.
