KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and former federal minister Dr Asim Hussain met Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) chief Dr Farooq Sattar on Sunday.
The meeting took place between the two leaders at Farooq Sattar’s residence, where Dr Asim, who is also PPP Karachi chief, conveyed a special message to the former from PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
During the meeting, the PPP leader and the MQM-P chief discussed ways to improve relations between both the parties and play a responsible role to make the overall political situation better.
On the occasion, Dr Asim said that it was the need of the hour to practice and promote the politics of reconciliation and create a trusting environment to support mutually beneficial political discourse in Sindh province.
“It is about time that we start working together to ensure the welfare of the people of Sindh,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Farooq Sattar said that the political atmosphere of the country was confusing as “artificial” politicians were being given political leverage by pressuring genuine ones to switch political loyalties.
He stressed that the tactics of intimidation and coercion employed in politics should come to an end. He also said that, “The process of accountability should be transparent to ensure that every individual is given fair treatment.”
It may be mentioned here that the meeting between Dr Asim and Dr Farooq had been held a day after Pak Sarzameen Party chief Mustafa Kamal disclosed that the alliance with the MQM-P was established with the support of the establishment and mutual consent of Farooq Sattar.
PSP RUFFLED FEATHERS OF 40-YEAR-OLD MQM-P:
Referring to MQM-P’s decision to sever ties with the PSP, Mustafa Kamal said Sunday “the contradictions in their [MQM-P’s] statements and actions within a day showed that we’re right”.
Speaking to reporters in Karachi, Kamal claimed that his relatively new party was giving sleepless nights to political opponents who had 40 years of experience under their belt.
Kamal however said his party didn’t even want animosity with its rivals. “We won’t stop spreading our message despite having ideological differences,” he added.
“Our mission is to resolve issues not just in Karachi but in all other districts of Sindh as well. We want to provide quality education to 25 million out-of-school children in Pakistan,” Kamal said.
He pointed out that saving children dying from malnutrition and various diseases was also one of the main objectives of his party besides eradicating unemployment and provision of justice in the entire country.
“If a mere one-and-a half-year-old party can ruffle the feathers of a 40-year-old party, then it’s our triumph. Those who are confused today will join us tomorrow because atonement is necessary before faith,” concluded Kamal.
