MULTAN: A local court on Monday extended the judicial remand of Mufti Abdul Qavi by seven days and adjourned the hearing of the Qandeel Baloch murder case till Nov 20

After having spent nearly two weeks in police custody, Mufti Qavi was presented before the judicial magistrate on Monday along with the charge sheet.

According to reports, Qavi had also taken a polygraph test at Punjab Forensic Science Authority (PFSA) in Lahore which went on for over five hours.

However, PFSA officials said the accused was not cooperative during the lie-detection test and wanted to forgo the process because of his recent angiography procedure.

On October 18, Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Pervez issued non-bailable warrants for Qavi after investigation officer Noor Akbar told the court that the cleric was not cooperating with the police.

The cleric was later arrested after reportedly attempting to escape and has since served time under judicial remand.

Mufti Qavi is a major suspect in the murder of Qandeel Baloch, who was killed by her brother in July, 2016. He is suspected of providing logistical as well as financial support to the perpetrators of the crime and is accused of instigating the model’s murder.
