Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute to be a role model in region: CM

LAHORE: A Board of Governors’ meeting of the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute was held under Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday to discuss the project’s progress and other important matters.

The meeting expressed satisfaction on the recruitment process of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff for the project.

Addressing the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif said that the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute was a great project for the service of the distressed humanity. He urged that work on the project should continue and all efforts should be made to complete it in time.

The CM said that patients with liver and kidney problems will get free treatment from the project and that it would be an exemplary project not only for Pakistan but for the whole region.

He said that Punjab government was spending Rs19 billion on this, adding that a project of such great significance for kidney and liver patients had not been launched in Pakistan before. He urged all concerned to maintain and upkeep top quality and standard at all costs.

The CM further said that recruitments for the institute are being made purely on merit. He said that the culture that would develop in the institute would be replicated in other public hospitals and therefore it was vital to finalise a comprehensive plan as soon as possible.

No one would be allowed to impede the project, the CM said, adding that the public must benefit from it since it was from the public exchequer that the project was being funded. Every penny has been spent with good faith, while costs worth millions of rupees have been cut through good management, he said He said that it was vital for everyone to work as a team in order that the institute may be a success.

Sharif further said that six hepatitis clinics had been set up in the province while more hepatitis clinics would also be established soon. He added that hepatitis patients would benefit greatly from the state-of-the-art hepatitis clinics.

Board of Governors President Prof Dr Saeed Akhtar spoke on the occasion, saying that great advancement had been made in a short time and the project was progressing well under Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership. He said that the chief minister had provided support at every step and all recruitments had been made on merit.

Provincial ministers, advisers, secretaries, members of the board of governors and others were also present on the occasion.
