First edition of Indian Sports Honours held in Mumbai

MUMBAI: The first edition of Indian Sports Honours was held on Saturday evening in Mumbai and was a star-studded event with many sports personalities and Bollywood actors gracing it with their presence.

Indian Sports Honours (ISH) is the initiative of Indian cricketer Virat Kohli and the chairman of RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group Sanjiv Goenka.

The awards were launched in September to honour Indian sportspersons for their achievements. “India has made rapid strides as a sporting nation. The days of being a one-sport country are behind us. The time is right to introduce an institution that will recognise our top sporting achievers and put the spotlight on those, who are expected to do the country proud in years to come,” Kohli had said during the launch.

The awards were well-received by the sports community with cricket all-rounder Hardik Pandya saying, “As cricketers, we don’t get many awards but it always feels special when you get nominated or you get an award.”

The Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri also said he looked forward to meeting other sports personalities during the first edition of ISH.

Sania Nehwal, PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth, Prannoy Kumar, Pullela Gopichand, Sania Mirza, Mahesh Bhupathi, Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan, Umesh Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin were among the sports stars present at the event.

Bollywood stars Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Anushka Sharma, Sidharth Malhotra, Malaika Arora, Riteish Deshmukh, among others also attended the grand event.
