Boy allegedly set on fire over monetary row in Karachi

KARACHI: A 15-year-old boy was allegedly set on fire by his friends over a monetary row in Surjani Town of Karachi, police said on Sunday.

Identified as Asif Ali, the victim sustained severe burn wounds and was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and then referred to Burns Centre of the Civil Hospital Karachi, SSP Muhammad Younis Chandio said of the incident which occurred on Friday.

Apparently, Ali went to meet his friends to settle a monetary dispute in Sector-7 of Surjani Town, the SSP for Karachi West said, adding that “something happened” there and the suspects allegedly set him on fire.

According to doctors, the teenager received around 25 per cent burn wounds on his neck, head and other parts of his body.

The victim’s family approached the police on Sunday to lodge a case against the two suspects, Ubaid and Aman.

Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the Additional IG Karachi.

The minister ordered an impartial inquiry and immediate action against the culprits involved in this gruesome incident.
