Take actions against smog, Punjab govt tweets to the Indian side

LAHORE: Punjab Government has sent a message to Indian Government through social media website Twitter asking them to take measures such as banning the burning of crop remains in a bid to fight against the current menace of smog.

In a tweet directed towards Indian Punjab’s Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh, the provincial government’s Twitter account demanded a reciprocation of measures which were being carried out in Pakistan.

The tweet has been dubbed as “Twitter Diplomacy” and was a cause of debate on both sides of the border. It was noted that various Indian twitter users appreciated the tweet sent out by the Pakistani side and many of them stating their appreciation regarding the measures taken to tackle the problem of smog.

Environment Protection department in Pakistan has thus far sealed 250 industrial units, which utilise poor coal, tires and other non-futile fuel. Action has been taken against 21 thousand vehicles. Ban under section 144 has been imposed against the burning of crops roots and their leftover.

The agriculture department has also educated three million farmers about alternative sources of destroying remains of crops and to cope with the dust, washing of roads has been started in Lahore.
