KARACHI: The judicial commission, formed by the Supreme Court (SC) to implement its orders on water, sanitation, environment and related issues, on Saturday, was informed by the provincial authorities that a plan was finalised to resolve issues impairing the education department.

Sindh High Court (SHC) judge Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro, who heads the one-man commission, resumed the hearing where he was informed by Sindh Education Secretary Dr Iqbal Hussain Durrani that a plan had been prepared to provide basic necessities to education department but it was not restricted to clean water and maintain sanitation.

The secretary informed that the plan would be first discussed with Sindh chief minister and the same would also be shared with the commission after its modalities are finally sorted out and agreed upon.

Separately, the health additional secretary submitted that his department was providing health sterilisation equipment to Sukkur Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College Hospital, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical College, Sindh Government Lyari General Hospital in Karachi, and Karachi Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital, which would be installed within 12 weeks.

“One friction heart sterilisation unit is available which would be installed at Larkana CMC hospital within four weeks. The order for acquiring 17 incinerations has already been placed out of which three incineration will be provided to hospitals in Shikarpur, Naushero Feroze and Badin,” he added.

The additional secretary, however, sought time to submit a detailed report about remaining 14 incinerators. It was expected that these 14 incinerators would be provided to remaining hospitals in Sindh.
