LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Qamar Zaman Kaira alleged Friday that the government intended to delay the general elections, saying that the PPP will not allow anyone to delay next year’s elections.

Addressing press conference in Lahore, Kaira said that the court had disclosed the reasons behind Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification, adding that the former prime minister was not ousted on the basis of an ‘iqama’, but for committing the crime of hiding facts from the honourable court.

He said, “The Sharif family cannot escape the clutches of accountability. After the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case they will be held accountable for the Model Town tragedy case, in which 14 Awami Tehreek workers were killed.”

Kaira lashed out at Nawaz Sharif for not showing trust in state institutions and said that he could have avoided hitting a rough patch if the Council of Common Interest (CCI) had been given its due value.

Making a remark about Imran Khan, the PPP leader said that if Imran’s current demands were met, the entire process of holding the next general elections could be put in jeopardy.

Later, Qamar Zaman visited an ailing old party worker, namely Hakim Muhammad Saeed, at his residence and ensured his family that PPP would bear all expenses for his treatment.
