KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday expressed displeasure over the provincial authorities for not filing its reply to a petition seeking publication of enquiry reports on several high profile criminal cases.

A division bench was hearing a petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Syed Ali Zaidi who had approached the court against the provincial chief secretary for not providing reports.

The PTI leader had submitted in the petition that Sindh Transparency and Right to information law, 2011 had been passed by the provincial assembly which allows every citizen the ‘right to information’.

The petitioner argued that despite requesting the chief secretary multiple times to provide copies of the Joint Investigation Report (JIT) reports of the Baldia factory fire incident, alleged crimes of Lyari gang-war leader Uzair Baloch and cases against the former chairperson of Fishermen Cooperative Society, Nisar Morai, the information required has not been received.

In Friday’s hearing of the petition, additional advocate general Sindh appeared before the court, saying that the advocate general himself wanted to represent the provincial government in the case and more time should be granted for submission of comments.

While putting off the matter till December 4, the bench directed the provincial authorities to ensure the submission before the next hearing.
