KARACHI: Members of major political parties expressed their views on the resignation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Farooq Sattar from his party, and then subsequent retraction.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Shehla Raza said that Sattar’s episode was simply something that the MQM-P’s founder would have done, further adding that her party, PPP thoroughly enjoyed the ‘three-hour drama’ of MQM’s chief.

She said in a tweet that Farooq Sattar is resorting to the same politics of cultivating ethnic hatred, that was the trademark of the MQM’s founder.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Marvi Memon in a tweet said: “I maintain that this term mohajir is transitory and sooner or later amalgamation is due/Honorable to your mother soul like we all did..”

She further said, “Frankly this whole business is not even worth a reaction. It’s their business. Let them handle it.”

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shireen Mazari said that MQM-PSP play out dramas of merger-separation while terrorists continue to target Balochistan; smog & overspending accidents claim lives across Punjab. She called this whole episode a “theatre of the absurd”.

Minutes after bidding adieu to his party and politics apparently over an intra-party rift over the merger with the Pak Sarzameen Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) chief Dr Farooq Sattar on Thursday took back his resignation on the request of his mother.
“I have taken my resignation back on the request of my mother,” said Sattar, as he sat beside his mother in his second presser of the day at his residence – amid chants of Sattar’s resignation not accepted by party workers and leaders.
After announcing his decision to quit the party in the first press conference on Thursday, Sattar went inside his house which was surrounded by party members. The members tried to convince their chief to take back his decision.
He returned in a little while and addressed a second press conference in which he was introduced by Faisal Sabzwari as “MQM-Pakistan Chief.”
“I swear to God, this is not any drama,” he remarked. “I am willing to serve as an adviser to Rabita Committee.”
