ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza on Friday stated that the general elections of 2018 will be held on time.
He was talking to media after attending the launch ceremony of voter registration facility at the National Database and Registration Authority’s (NADRA) mega centre.
Addressing the ceremony, the chief election commissioner stated that the joint venture of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and NADRA will be helpful to facilitate the citizens in voting.
He stated that this service will be provided to the citizens on the issuance of new Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC), whereby an option of registration of voters as per permanent or temporary address will be made available.
He further added that with the help of NADRA, the election commission will make election process accurate and unmistakable.
He appealed the citizens to cooperate with the NADRA staff for registration of their vote.
NADRA Chairman Usman Mobin termed this facility as major achievement and outcome of ECP and NADRA cooperation to facilitate the people.
He stated that the ECP had asked NADRA to introduce a system of registration for voters and that NADRA will tag people’s address to have knowledge of their location.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan summoned a meeting of its planning committee on November 17 to discuss the preparation and delimitation of constituencies for next general election.
The ECP Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad will chair the meeting while all provincial election commissioners and other high ups will attend it.
The meeting will review the required electoral material for next general election, particularly the printing of ballot papers. The meeting will also review the electoral voter lists, election commission and electoral staff.
The use of electronic voting machines on trial basis and the results obtained will also be discussed. The issues related to the gap between storage facilities voters will also come under discussion.
