KARACHI: An accountability court took notice of the establishment of a medical board for jail inmate Sharjeel Memon without first obtaining the court’s permission.

The accountability court has sought jail officials’ reply for setting up a medical board for the Pakistan People’s Party leader, who is serving time for a Rs5.76 billion graft.

The court expressed annoyance over the jail officials’ step and required that they submit a response within three days.

It further asked the concerned health official at the jail to provide details of medical treatments other prisoners were being provided, including the number of doctors, budget and other facilities. The court demanded to know why high-ranking government officials were not admitted to the jail hospital.
