Court admits petition against Hamid Mir

ISLAMABAD: A lower court of Islamabad on Thursday accepted a petition seeking the inclusion of section 302 in the first information report (FIR) registered against TV anchor Hamid Mir for the murder of Khalid Khawaja.

The district and sessions judge of Islamabad fixed the petition, filed by Khalid Khawaja’s wife Shamama Malik, for hearing on November 11.

The petitioner had stated in her plea that the police had deliberately omitted the murder sections in the FIR against Mir despite Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) orders.

She stated that the Ramana Police Station had only registered an FIR against Hamid Mir for the kidnapping of Khalid Khawaja.

The police were not recording the statement of the plaintiff in compliance with IHC orders in the case, the petition further read.

The petitioner claimed that there was evidence available regarding contacts between TV anchor and foreign agencies.

She requested the court to direct the police to include section 302 in the FIR against Hamid Mir and also pass an order for an autopsy of her husband’s body.

The petitioner had nominated Inspector General of Police Islamabad (IGP), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) (Operations) and Station House Officer (SHO) Ramana police station as respondents in the plea.
