Chelum of Karbala martyrs being observed amid tight security today

KARACHI: Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and other martyrs of Karbala is being observed on Friday with traditional religious spirit and reverence.

Strict security arrangements are in place at sensitive areas across the country to allow the processions to pass peacefully through their respective traditional routes.

Meanwhile, mobile services will be suspended in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi,  Peshawar, and Quetta among other cities, during the course of the processions.

In Karachi, the main procession will start from Nishtar Park and conclude at Hussainia Irania Imambargah in Kharadar.

Link roads leading to MA Jinnah Road have been sealed with containers, while snipers have deployed on rooftops along the procession’s routes.

Moreover, CCTV cameras will monitor the activities along the course of processions with a dedicated ‘Command and Control Centre’.

The Sindh government has already imposed a two-day ban on pillion-riding of a motorbike across the province as part of security measures.

In addition, aerial surveillance of processions will ensure added security during the course of processions’ activities.

In Rawalpindi, the procession will culminate at Imambargah Qadeemi.

In Peshawar, at least 3,500 police personnel will ensure the security of procession routes.
