‘8,000 new recruits to be inducted into Motorway Police’

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communication Dr Hafiz Abdul Karim said Friday that 8,000 new recruitments would be made soon in the motorway police, as jurisdiction of the motorway police will be increased by 1,800 kilometres.

He said this while attending the passing out parade of 15 deputy superintendents of police, 28 patrolling officers and 344 junior patrolling officers at Motorway Police Training College in Sheikhpura.

The Motorway Police Inspector General Dr Syed Kalim Imam, Motorway Police Training College Commandant Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Khalid Mahmood, DIG Ghulam Rasool Zahid, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kamran Adil, SSP Syed Hasmat Kamal, SSP Masroor Alam Kolachi and other police officers, official and their families were also present on the occasion.

On the occasion, the federal minister said that the motorway between Lahore and Multan would be inaugurated in 2018, while Hazara motorway stretching from Havilaan to Hassan Abdal, will be functional by the last month of this year.

He said that the excellent performance of motorway police over the years was a good example of professional excellence. He said that the professional working of motorway police had become a role model for other departments of country, adding that the National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) were performing excellent duties, services and security for road users travelling on highways and motorways. He also said that the government had contacted multiple mega projects for the development and the prosperity of the country.

The federal minister said that road networks were being built all over the country, while adding that these projects were vital to achieve the economic objectives in the field of electricity and road structure.

The role of motorway police was quite important in the success of these projects and responsibilities of NH&MP had been increased manifold in the near future, he said.

On the occasion the minister also congratulated the successful police officers during his address. NH&MP Inspector General Dr Syed Kalim Imam said that Motorway Police could sometimes become lethargic but would never become dishonest.

He said our prime responsibility was to educate and train the road users about road safety measures. The status and responsibilities were a divine gift and we have to work day and night to usher a change regarding road safety, he added.
