CM visits Iqbal’s mausoleum to pay respects, offers fatiha and recites poetry

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the mausoleum of Poet of the East, Allama Dr Muhammad Iqbal on the occasion of Iqbal Day, today. He laid the floral wreath at the Mazaar of Allama Iqbal; offered Fateha and prayed for the prosperity and solidarity of the country. He also inked his comments at the visitor’s book and paid rich tributes to the services of Dr Muhammad Iqbal.

Talking to the media on the occasion, the chief minister said that the poetry of Allama Iqbal has inspired the Muslims of the subcontinent for a separate homeland and this dream of Pakistan was materialized due to the great struggle led by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

On the occasion, he read the following couplet

Sajdon Say Tare Kya Huwa Sadiyan Guzar Gain….Dunya Teri Badal Day Wo Sajda Talash Kar

He stated that corruption and plunder of national resources have weakened the foundation of the country and there is a culture of loot everywhere. A culture of nepotism, recommendation and bribery is in vogue in the country and to counter it there should be an accountability process which is transparent and above-board.

Remaining true to the spirit of Iqbal day, the CM once again recited the following couplets in his usual flamboyance

Amal Se Zindagi Banti Hai Jannat Bhi Jahanum Bhi….Yeh Khaaki Apni Fitrat Main Na Nuri Hai Na Nari Hai

Concluding his media talk, the chief minister stated that we should make a commitment on this day to honestly serve the 210 million people of Pakistan and that it is an inherent faith of every citizen that if we follow the principles of hard work, honesty and trust then the country will emerge as a Pakistan of Iqbal and Jinnah.
