LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq advised ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif to let go of his ego and accept the apex court’s decision.
Addressing the party’s central leadership at Mansoora on Wednesday, he said had the court verdict been in their favour, the Sharif family would have been jubilant, adding none of the rulers in the country’s history had accepted the verdict of the judiciary if it went against them. However, he said there was a change in the judiciary and the nation stood behind an independent judiciary now.
Siraj said the JI was awaiting the accountability of all those named in the Panama leaks and those who had devoured heavy bank loans.
Taking a jibe at almost all the mainstream parties, the JI chief said the dynastic politics in the parties was a poison to democracy, adding the country would never have to face the present situation if democracy was implemented in letter and spirit.
Siraj further said that the government was not sincere in electoral reforms and the ruling party MNAs mostly remained absent from the house’s proceeding, which showed how sincere the government was in its commitment towards the country and people. He stressed that electoral reforms must be ensured before the 2018 general elections.
