Home minister, police officials attend funeral prayers of martyred cop

KARACHI: Funeral prayer for Constable Naveed Akhtar, who was shot dead by unknown assailants in the jurisdiction of Shahrah-e-Noor Jehan police station, was offered at Police Headquarters in Garden (South) on Wednesday afternoon.

Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Khan Siyal, Karachi Additional IG, Additional IG (Special Branch) and other senior officials also attended the prayers along with other colleagues, friends and family members of the deceased cop.

A contingent of policemen on the occasion laid a floral wreath on the coffin and presented a special salute to their martyred colleague who was deputed at the special branch in Gadap.

The home minister, condoling with the bereaved family, paid tribute to the cops who had laid their lives for the safety of citizens and in the line of duty. “Sacrifices made by men and officials associated with the police department in the campaign against criminals and terrorists will not go in vain,” he said.

The minister announced that family members of the constable Naveed Akhtar will be entitled to all benefits and facilities in accordance with the rules and regulations. The police officials were asked to expedite the process so that the bereaved family may be duly facilitated and avail the same without any difficulty.
