HYDERABAD: The police foiled a terror bid as it recovered five bombs which were later defused by bomb disposal squad (BDS) here on Wednesday.

“The overall weight of the bombs was around 25 kilogrammes,” said Ramzan Panhwar, a member of the squad. He added that the bombs had been developed so that they could be fitted with a remote-controlled device.

Police said that on a report of the presence of suspected bag near Mehran University at Indus Highway in Hyderabad, it reached the scene along with BDS personnel. During a search of the bag, five bombs were recovered which were defused by BDS.

“Five pencil cells were also found and an orange fuse was there too,” he said.

Officials said that the bombs were to be used for terror bid at the Mehran University or in Hyderabad but terrorists left them due to strict checking by police on the road.
