Special Olympics to be held under the patronage of provincial govt: Sports minister

LAHORE: The Punjab government is to hold Special Olympics to promote extracurricular activities among differently abled children.

17th Punjab Special Olympics will be held from November 08 to Nov 10th under the patronage of Punjab Sports Board and Pakistan Olympics.

1100 special children will participate in Special Olympics in 9 categories including basketball, badminton, football, table tennis, swimming, powerlifting and cycling. Punjab Sports Board will provide facilities for boarding and lodging along with infrastructure for different game categories.

This was stated by Provincial Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Jahangir Khanzada, who was presiding over a review meeting regarding preparations for Punjab Special Olympics.

He stated that the present government was taking concrete measures for promotion and rehabilitation of special persons, providing them free education, skills training, job quota and business opportunities along with sports activities for their physical growth.

Director sports and representatives from Punjab Sports Board, Pakistan Olympics Association and Special Management Unit attended the meeting.
