‘Delimitation of constituencies’ bill should be presented in parliament after CCI approval’

ISLAMABAD: Opposition leader Khursheed Shah on Wednesday expressed resentment over postponing the National Assembly (NA) session.

Talking to reporters, Shah said that it was decided earlier that the NA session would continue till next Tuesday, but was postponed later without taking the house in confidence. He said, “Today the electoral reforms bill was to be presented in NA, but the session was postponed for an indefinite period without taking the house in confidence. Such a thing has never happened in the past and equates to making fun of the parliament.”

The opposition leader claimed that his party had reservations over the population census data of Sindh after the latest census, as it had been shown to be three to four percent less than the actual number.

Speaking about the delimitation of constituencies bill, Khursheed Shah said that it should have been sent to the Council of Common Interests (CCI), but nothing was done in this regard. He criticised the government members for distrusting their own administration. He said the demand for approval of delimitation of constituencies by the CCI was made earlier by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

Shah further said that there was no harm in holding elections on the basis of 1998 census, however, the Pakistan People’s Party was not in favour of early elections.

Commenting on Nawaz Sharif’s security, he said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader had the right to have private security only, as it would be unfair to use official security.
