Man who made SHC bomb call ‘as a joke’ arrested

KARACHI: The District South police on Monday arrested a suspect from Sawan Goth who made a fake bomb call to the Sindh High Court some three days ago.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) District South Javed Akbar Riaz apprised that the arrest was made after the team investigating the call traced the caller’s  location to Sawan Goth in Gadap Town in district Malir.

Subsequently, a raid was conducted by the police authorities during which the suspect was arrested. The detainee is identified to be Pir Bux, SSP Riaz informed.

During the initial interrogation following the arrest, the accused confessed to have made the call jokingly. The police authorities also retrieved the call record from Madadgar 15 to aid the investigation process.

Following the incident, SSP Riaz warned strict action against those who were found guilty of indulging in such activities in the future.

Further investigations in the incident are ongoing.

On November 3, at around 2:50 pm, the Madadgar 15 received a call from an unknown person informing the presence of a planted bomb inside the Sindh High Court building. Following the call, a Bomb Disposal Squad team was called to the site, who after a thorough search, declared the premises clear at around 4:20 pm.

Subsequently, a first information report (FIR) was lodged against the suspect at the Preedy police station under sections of the Telegraph Act and section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
