Children precious assets, should be vaccinated against polio: Imran Nazir

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Primary & Secondary Health, Khawaja Imran Nazir has said that children are the most precious asset of the nation and parents should get their children vaccinated against polio to provide them with a healthy future. He said that by administering two polio drops to every child, parents could protect them from a lifelong disability.

He expressed these views while talking to media persons after inaugurating three-day anti-polio campaign in Lahore at Government Mianmir Hospital on Monday. Deputy Commissioner Syed Sumair Ahmed, Lord Mayor Colonel (r) Mubasher Javed, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Health Dr Yudullah and other staff of the hospital was also present on this occasion.

Khawaja Imran Nazir informed the press that anti-polio campaign would continue till November 08, 2017 during which more than 0.17 million children up to 5 years of age would be administered polio drops.

He stated that for the purpose of polio drops administration more than 4 thousand polio teams have been constituted which will visit door to door administering polio drops to the children.

The minister further said that children are dearest to their parents, therefore, parents should get their children vaccinated against polio for ensuring a healthy future for their new generation.

Khawaja Imran Nazir stated that if the polio team did not reach any house even then the parents should accept their responsibility and bring their children to the nearby immunisation centre for vaccination.

While responding to a question, the minister stated that micro-planning has been done for ensuring vaccination of travelling children from other provinces. He said that special teams have been constituted to administer polio drops in Pushto speaking localities to ensure administration of polio drops to families who are staying as a guest with their relatives.
