KARACHI: The Sindh government has approved a grant of Rs502.1 million for Karachi University (KU), an official of the institution said on Sunday.
He stated that the amount would be utilised for the revamping of water and sewerage system of the campus.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan expressed his gratitude to the Sindh government and especially Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in this regard and hoped that the grant will be released shortly.
This is the first time in the history of the varsity that a proper water and sewerage system will be installed, the university official maintained. He added that Dr Ajmal Khan, soon after taking charge, took a personal interest in this issue, and now after approval, funds will be released by the Sindh government shortly.
Moreover, he said that the Sindh government also issued a grant of Rs100 million in the last financial year which has been received by the varsity.
Recently, the federal and provincial governments approved the proposal of establishment of a medical college and a hospital at KU, for which the vice-chancellor also expressed gratitude towards the federal government and especially the Sindh governor, and President Mamnoon Hussain also gave a fund of Rs10 million.
“I have also committed to substantially reduce our expenses and resolve the financial crisis. Fortunately, the results are evidently positive and satisfying clearly indicating the fact that we are heading towards the right direction,” Dr Ajmal said in this regard.
Water meters were also installed in KU campus on the special directives of the VC from which KU will be saving 10 million rupees per month, the official further maintained.
