KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leadership will be addressing a rally to protest against the provisional census results at Liaquatabad flyover here in the metropolis.
Preparations for the rally are underway while, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) chief Farooq Sattar went to Jama Cloth Market to invite people for the rally, where he said 500 union committees would be formed once the census results are rectified.
The opposition leader in Sindh Assembly, Khawaja Izharul Hassan, and MQM-P’s Kanwar Naveed, extended invitations to people from different areas of the central district to attend the rally.
The party leaders, including Rauf Siddiqui and Kamran Tessori, visited the rally to make sure that preparations are as per plan.
Addressing the media, Naveed stated that it was unfair to undercount the population of Karachi.
MQM-P chief had announced a protest rally, criticising the census results that he termed as being rigged. He stated that Karachi population is about 30 million, but the census estimated it to be 10.6 million. He claimed this to be a deliberate attempt to reduce employment opportunities in the province.
The sixth Housing and Population Census took place after a lapse of 19 years on March 15.
