LAHORE: Director General (DG) Rescue 1122 Dr Rizwan Naseer said on Sunday that the addition of motorcycle ambulances in the Rescue 1122 fleet was a successful initiative and had already dealt with over 3,500 road accidents and medical emergencies since its inception 24 days ago.
Talking to media persons, Dr Naseer said that the maximum calls received and responded to by the two-wheel ambulances were related to accidents and medical emergencies.
He informed that the motorcycle ambulances were carrying facilities like blood pressure monitors, lifesaving medicines, glucometers, pulse oximeters, portable oxygen cylinders, cervical collars, airway kits, burn kits, trauma kits, splints and automated external defibrillators.
The DG pointed out the utility that such a well-equipped service may have to people living in different parts of the town.
To a question, Dr Rizwan Naseer said that the Punjab Emergency Service had launched 900 motorcycle ambulances for nine divisional headquarters of the province which would become operational shortly.
He said that the motorcycle ambulance service had been launched in Multan on Saturday, adding that more than 100 motorbikes have started rescue operation there.
“Other cities where this service would start soon include Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi,” he informed.
It is pertinent to mention here that a total of 200 motorbike ambulances have been parked at 50 different locations or points across the city of Lahore.
Based on risk assessment, the city is divided into four zones or clusters of emergencies with 12 points in each zone.
Zone One includes the Walled City, Shahdara, Yadgar, and Shah Alam Market; Zone Two includes areas of Dharampura, Mughalpura, Saddar, Cantt, and Daroghawala; Zone Three includes areas of Saggian, Gulshan Ravi, Moon Market, Chauburji, Ichhra, and Mansoora; and Zone Four includes Gulberg, Faisal Town, Model Town, Qainchi, Defence, Bhatta Chowk, and Chungi Amar Sidhu.
