ISLAMABAD: Railways Minister Saad Rafique on Friday dispelled the impression that the Sharif family is shying away from courts, adding that the family always respected national institutions.
Speaking to media outside accountability court premises, Rafique said that the former prime minister wants a fair trial and that he would not run away from the accountability process. Nawaz Sharif and family are appearing in courts in spite of Begum Kalsoom Nawaz’s illness and false allegations leveled against them, he added.
Speaking about the ongoing case against the family, Rafique said, “No proof of money laundering was presented against Sharif family in months-long investigations but, despite reservations, we are appearing before the courts.”
He said that PML-N was ready to strive for democratic struggle and would protect people’s right to rule, adding that Sharif had always cherished democracy and struggled for its restoration in the country.
Rafique said that the present situation was not new for the Sharif family as they had also faced similar challenges in the past.
“PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif is the one who eliminated terrorism from the country and improved the economic situation,” he added.
Meanwhile, Capital Administration and Development Minister of State Tariq Fazal Chaudhry stated that people who were hatching conspiracies against the government would not succeed. He added that the appearance of the country’s former prime minister in court was unprecedented and that he was doing so only out of respect for the law.
To a question, he said that Begum Kalsoom Nawaz’s health was improving and that she would fully recover soon.
