ISLAMABAD: National Assembly (NA) Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi on Friday expressed the desire to further strengthen warm relations between Pakistan and South Africa by enhancing parliamentary and economic contacts.
He expressed these views while talking to Republic of South Africa Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown who called on him at the Parliament House.
On the occasion, the deputy speaker said that relations between both the countries were increasing at a steady pace, adding that the contact would be speeded up on the government level.
Commerce and Textile Federal Minister Muhammad Pervaiz Malik, Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) State Minister Dr Tariq Fazal, Minister of State for Maritime Affairs Jaffar Iqbal and the high commissioner of South Africa in Pakistan were also present on the occasion.
The deputy speaker said that Pakistan valued its relations with South Africa, which were based on friendship and mutual trust. He stressed the need for regular interaction between parliamentarians belonging to both the countries, adding that parliamentarians could play a pivotal role for strengthening existing bilateral relations between both the countries.
The deputy speaker invited South African investors to take benefit from pro-investment policies introduced by the incumbent government in diverse fields. He said that the volume of trade between Pakistan and South Africa was relatively low and unexplored, adding that there was a great potential for further expansion of business ties in the future.
