Imran dubs Shehbaz ‘dramabaaz Sharif’

KOT ADDU: In another tirade against the leaders of the ruling party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Friday dubbed Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif “dramabaaz Sharif”, and suggested that the chief minister should be sent to Bollywood.

While addressing a rally in Kot Addu, Imran Khan said, “Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has exceptional acting skills and should be sent to Bollywood because  he could utilise his talents there.”

He said that the main issue plaguing Punjab was the politicization of its police force. He highlighted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police had been depoliticised and that no one could lodge a fake First Information Report (FIR) in KP police stations. In Punjab and Sindh, however, dozens of baseless FIRs are registered due to the politicisation of police, he remarked.

He further said that people were satisfied with the performance of KP police department and saw them as serving justice. However, when Punjab chief minister noticed this, he decided to merely change Punjab police force’s uniform and called it a “reformatory measure”, Imran continued in his criticism.

“The Punjab police department officials called to assure me that they would vote for PTI since they want their former uniforms back,” he claimed.

The PTI chief went on to say that the writ of law, transparent elections and accountability of parliamentarians are three necessary components of democracy, adding that all of these fell short of the mark in the present regime.

He recalled the protocol given to ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif during the latter’s visits to the accountability court, saying that nowhere else in the world did an accused enjoy protocol from the money of the masses.

He said that the parliament was guilty of “protecting” Nawaz. He said that his party had approached all relevant institutions to seek action against Nawaz’s corruption, but they all protected both Sharif and his family. “We went to the Supreme Court after all institutions refused to help us,” he said.

He also said that “Iqama Khawaja Asif” had assured the Sharif family that people would soon forget about the Panama case. He said that the people would not forget, as much as Khawaja Asif would not if money was stolen from him. He said that the corrupt rulers’ greed while looting the nation’s money was boundless.

He also criticised the health facilities provided by the Punjab government and demanded to know why Kulsoom Nawaz could not be treated in her own country. “I became unwell twice and both times I got treatment at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital,” he said.

Khan further criticised the amendments in articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution. Among some other things he promised his party would do for the country if they formed the next government were lowering the price of diesel and bringing reforms in the education and health sectors. PTI would practice democracy in its true spirit if it got elected as the ruling party in the upcoming elections, he said.
