DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A girl was forcefully stripped and paraded around the streets of  Dera Ismail Khan’s Matt area, to “pay the price for her brother’s crimes,” it was reported.

According to reports, the incident occurred on October 27, when the 16-year-old girl was grabbed and stripped by a group of men, as she was returning home. The men then forcefully made her walk in the locality for an hour.

Later the men reportedly said that the girl was ‘punished’ in place of her brother who allegedly ‘got involved in a relationship with a girl from the village.’

Earlier, the girl’s brother was fined Rs105,000 to resolve the matter by a panchayat. The tehsil Nazim was also a part of the decision-making process.

A case was later registered against people who were responsible for the incident. Eight suspects have been arrested so far. However, the prime suspect, identified as Sajawal, is still on the run.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak took notice of the issue and ordered KP Inspector-General Salahuddin Masood to arrest the culprits as soon as possible. The IG also met the chief minister and briefed him on the matter.

Moreover, a bill asking for action in the case has also been submitted to the provincial assembly.
