Eight suspects allegedly assault girl and parade her naked

DI KHAN: Police on Wednesday obtained custody of eight suspects who allegedly assaulted a girl and paraded her naked a few days ago as an act of ‘punishment’ in Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan).

The police, who have yet to nab the primary suspect, namely Sajawal, had sought the physical remand of the suspects for 10 days, but judicial magistrate Adam Khan only approved their custody for three days. The judge also ordered the police to conduct medical tests of the accused.

Superintendent of Police Ashfaq Khan said that the police have also recorded the statement of the victim in detail. He said that the statement was recorded in the presence of local Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Member of National Assembly Amin Gandapur.

According to the police, the victim’s brother, Sajjad, was reportedly involved in an extramarital affair with a girl in the Girah Mut locality.

A panchayat (council of elders) settled the matter by fining the male’s family Rs 0.25 million, but on October 27, the girl was assaulted and paraded on the road as ‘punishment’.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police had assigned the task of supervising the investigation to Regional Police Officer Fida Hasan Shah, directing him to handle the case in a swift and partial manner. A first information report, number 210, had been registered at the Chaudhwan Police Station, DI Khan.
