Dialogue tactic to buy time after failed military operation, says Hurriyat

SRINAGAR: The Joint Resistance Leadership (Hurriyat) comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and Muhammad Yasin Malik has said that the nomination of Dineshwar Sharma as Indian government’s interlocutor on Jammu and Kashmir, is just a tactic to buy time after they failed to repress the Kashmiris with the help of the army.

This was said in a statement that was issued after a meeting at the Hyderpora residence of Gilani in Srinagar. They further stated in the statement that they always advocated and supported dialogue to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir issue but India had always been reluctant to admit to having a problem.

They reiterated that this issue will not be solved with the use of brute force, killings, arrests, torture and harassment of women. It also stated that in order to bring permanent peace to South Asia, it was imperative that the issue of Kashmir was settled on the basis of right to self-determination.

Meanwhile, Gilani also appealed to the world human rights bodies and UN Human Rights Council to notice human rights abuses by Indian troops in the occupied Kashmir. He expressed deep concern over the biased approach of Indian judiciary against the Kashmiri prisoners.

Malik in a statement strongly condemned the continued illegal detention of an elderly Hurriyat activist, Muhammad Sha’aban, of Kulgam.
