PESHAWAR: A local jirga in Mardan district expelled a community of cooks from the village for increasing their prices per cauldron by Rs100.

The Social Welfare Committee in Kohi Barmol Katlang village called upon the village residents to socially boycott 10 families of cooks. Announcements were made over the village mosque loudspeakers for this purpose.

As a result, the men from the ostracised families have left to find work in other places, while the women and children stay behind in poor conditions.

According to one of the expelled cooks, they had decided to increase the price per cauldron due to inflation. They had not expected such a harsh reaction from the village committee. The cook was upset over the lack of food available to his family, saying that even shopkeepers had joined the villagers in their boycott and stopped selling them anything.
