KARACHI: Sindh chapter of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and other representative bodies of doctors staged a protest outside the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday.
The demonstration was held to demand promotions and regularisation of doctors and an increase in the salaries that are at par with doctors in other provinces of Pakistan.
The protest included PMA Secretary-General Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad, Joint Secretary Dr Usman Lako and practitioners from all over the province.
Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad speaking on the occasion stated that PMA is the representative body for doctors and it does not support strike or protest in hospitals, which only increases the miseries of patients. However, he remained adamant on the merit of the demands presented by the doctors and showed the resolve of keeping up the protests until positive engagement was apparent by Sindh government.
He further demanded the implementation of the orders of Supreme Court and an increase in salaries and allowances of doctors to make them at par with perks of doctors in other provinces of Pakistan.
Dr Usman Lako, the joint secretary, speaking on the occasion showed reservations over the lack of implementation of apex court’s orders and lamented the situation in Sindh where doctors were still working at the same pay scale for the last twenty years.
He demanded an immediate implementation of the court order and promotion of the doctors to higher grades.
