UMT’s international conference on business concludes

LAHORE: The Second International Business Conference and Exhibition (IBCE-2017) held by University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lahore concluded with a formal closing ceremony that comprised of speeches of the guests and giving away of souvenirs and certificates to the exhibitors and sponsors.

Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Prof Nizam ud Din presided over the closing ceremony. On the occasion, Board of Governors of UMT Chairman Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, UMT Rector Muhammad Aslam, IBCE Chief Organiser Abid HK Shirwani, Turkish Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Hasan Celik and the other guests of honour were present.

Addressing the participants, Punjab HEC Chairman Nizam ud Din said that it was a matter of excitement to visit UMT’s international conference on business and expo that had attracted both foreign and international exhibitors. He said that there are serious questions regarding Pakistan’s economy that need to be addressed at the governmental level, but institutions of higher education like UMT could play an effective role by carrying out research on the issues that are still untouched including CPEC project. He said Punjab HEC would soon take an initiative to engage public as well as private sector universities to conduct in-depth research on the issues of national interest. Dr Nizam ud Din appreciated UMT leadership for raising awareness among masses about CPEC, business education and recommended that the next IBCE should include workshops and research papers on all aspects of CPEC in particular and Pakistan’s economy in general.

Expressing his views, Turkish Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Hasan Celik said that UMT is in good books of the Turkish government that wants to collaborate with the varsity through a number of initiatives like the recently set up Pak-Turk Studies Center.

Speaking on the occasion, Board of Governors Chairman Hasan Sohaib Murad said that improving the economy was the foremost responsibility of the government as universities could only support government’s agenda for economic and political stability. He said that through IBCE students had gained a good exposure by seeing local and international companies and attending inspiring lectures of the speakers.

Around 20,000 people including students, families, local traders, and general public visited the last day of the event at Expo Center Lahore.
