Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday said that his party supports democracy and will not tolerate any technocrat or national government setup.
During an interview with a private news channel, Bilawal said that he believed that the forming of a technocrat government would not happen before the 2018 general elections. He said, “The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is misleading the nation in this regard.” It seemed that the PML-N government was overplaying its cards in this regard and giving the impression that they wanted to welcome a technocrat government in the country, he added.
During the interview, Bilawal alleged that Nawaz Sharif had taken some controversial steps during his tenure, while adding that those decisions only harmed the democratic process rather than strengthening it.
The PPP chairman also said that his party did not support any unconstitutional steps since it was a people-friendly party. “The founding principle of the PPP was to make people the source of true power in the country,” he added.
He said that the main issue right now was that people were either supporting democracy or corruption in the country. “Being the grandson of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and son of Benazir Bhutto, I will always support democracy over other things,” he added.
