Govt focuses on early completion of uplift projects

The measures have been adopted to accelerate pace of work on gas and electricity projects under Prime Minister’s Global SDPs Programme for members of the National Assembly.

Sources said the government has announced rewards for officers and staffers to complete the power projects before the forthcoming general elections. Under the plan, the projects falling in the constituencies of the ruling party and its allies would be completed before the elections.

The work on ongoing power and gas projects was sluggish and seemed difficult that these projects could be completed before the general elections 2018 so the government has decided to award the officers and staffers with prizes for early completion of uplift schemes.

The prime minister has also issued funds worth Rs 30 million under global SDPs programme for MNAs, MPAs and allied parties. After unleashing the funds, power projects including laying of transmission lines and construction of schools and colleges have been started.

Sources said that these gas projects were launched during PPP tenure while the government had halted work on these projects and now work was being initiated so that the ruling party may get victory in the next general elections.

It is worth mentioning that government has admitted that only 1857 mw electricity could be injected in the system during the present tenure while remaining projects of solar, coal and wind were facing delay.
