KARACHI: A three-day polio immunization drive has begun across the city with Nazimabad Children Hospital also taking part in the campaign. Karachi Health Services Director Dr Muhammad Taufeeq and other officials of the Sindh Health Department were present on the occasion to mark the beginning of the 3rd Sub-National Immunization Day (SNID) in the hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, the director emphasised on the importance of all stakeholders within society, coming together to work against the eradication of polio.

“The future of our children is on the stake and it is up to us to work together to safeguard health for the generations to come”, Dr Taufeeq said. He also commended the support from all district health administrations, World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners involved in Expanded Programme of Immunization (EPI).

Sindh Government Children Hospital’s Chief Operating Officer (CEO) Dr Imam Yar Baig also spoke on the occasion reflecting similar views of defeating polio at a national level and stressed the use of advanced technology in the hospital to guarantee the best facilities being provided to the patients.

It is important to note that thus far in 2017, Sindh has only reported one polio case from Karachi, evidence of the EPI successfully working towards an end to polio.
