KARACHI: An accountability court on Monday indicted eight suspects, including former Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Haider Jamali and former Assistant Inspector General of Police (Finance) Syed Fida Hussain Shah in a reference pertaining to illegal recruitment in the provincial police department during their terms in office.
The suspects rejected the charge-sheet against them after which the court adjourned the hearing and summoned witnesses on November 8.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has accused the former IGP and then finance AIG Fida Hussain Shah and six other police officials of making 81 illegal appointments by misusing their authority in the Sindh Reserve Police (SRP), Hyderabad, causing a loss of over Rs50 million to the national exchequer.
The Supreme Court appointed a three-member fact-finding committee to identify illegalities in the recruitment process and later referred the matter to NAB.
