LAHORE: The final match of the three-match T20 series played between Pakistan and Sri Lanka on Sunday culminated peacefully amid tight security measures.
Despite the fact that a five-tier security cordon was placed in the vicinity of the stadium, and many roads adjacent to Gaddafi Stadium were also blocked, no complaints regarding inconvenience was reported by the commuters. The credit for this goes to the traffic police officials, who did well in implementing the traffic plan.
The match was held amid strict security measures at the Gaddafi Stadium. The surroundings streets of the venue were cut off from the city by placing barbed wires and barriers. Moreover, two helicopters were also on alert to cope with any untoward incident and for monitoring purposes. High resolution closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras were installed by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, being monitored by a special security desk setup at Qurban Police Lines, headed b a superintendent of police (SP).
Reportedly, over 10,000 police personnel were deployed to provide foolproof security to the event and cricket lovers. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Amin Wains and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) operations Haider Ashraf also remained present to review the security situation. DIG Ashraf said that a three-tier cordon was formed to protect the visiting players, while a six-tier security cordon was guarding the team’s hotel.
Moreover, the rescue forces were also deployed in and around the stadium. The Rescue 1122 deployed 300 emergency medical technicians, 21 ambulances, 12 fire vehicles and four rescue van; at least 30 mobile rescue posts were also present.
In order to facilitate the citizens, the Lahore Transport Company (LTC) also provided free shuttle service to cricket enthusiasts thronging the stadium. According to company spokesperson, the LTC provided the spectators with 30 air-conditioned buses to reach the stadium without hassle.
“We are becoming a part of the cricket revival in Pakistan, and to show our commitment, the company is plying the shuttle service from various points to the stadium before and after the match,” the spokesperson said.
The district government also put in its efforts to make the event a success. They put up flowers and plants along the roads leading to the stadium, besides making the routes properly lit.
