KARACHI: Muttahida Quami Movement-Pakistan chief Farooq Sattar on Sunday said that deserting members of the party could be brought back to the party.
He was speaking in reference to Karachi Deputy Mayor Arshad Vohra’s decision earlier the same day of joining rival Pakistan Sarzameen Party (PSP).
Sattar said that “those who have left the party” could be brought back to it but the party did not want to “pile on” to their troubles.
He said that Vohra had joined PSP because of Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) case against him.
“Anis Qaimkhani will help Vohra with the FIA case,” he said.
He said, “Those who left the party are already in trouble, and we don’t want to add to their problems by bringing them back.”
Vohra’s desertion comes as a blow to MQM-P, which remains at loggerheads with PSP.
Speaking about the recent national census, Sattar said that MQM-P would protest against its results, adding that Karachi’s population had been grossly understated in it.
He announced a protest rally at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam on November 5 against “census results and the political restrictions on MQM-P”. He claimed that MQM-P is capable of gathering a large crowd of supporters for the purpose.
Sattar also announced to join students’ protests against National Testing Service (NTS) test results, saying that the students of Hyderabad and Sukkur had been treated unfairly.
“The Sindhi-speaking residents of the province are our brothers and sisters and we will join them in their protest against injustice,” he said.
He said that his party did not believe in politics of intimidation and subjugation, adding that MQM-P had proved that its political agenda was based on principle.
