Plying of modern electric buses in Karachi augurs well: governor

KARACHI: A delegation of Chinese company headed by its chief Thomas Wang informed Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair that the company would initially ply 80 to 90 buses on 13 routes in Karachi.

The Eco Bus delegation called on the Sindh governor at Governor House on Friday and told the governor that the talks regarding the projects are in final phase.

Appreciating the development, the Sindh governor said that plying of electric buses in the metropolis augurs well. It would provide latest and comfortable travel facility to the people, he said, adding that the electric buses would help rid the people of noise pollution and environmental pollution.

The delegation informed the governor that the Chinese government has decided that by 2020 a few other buses in the city would be converted into environment-friendly electric buses.

Meanwhile, before plying electric buses, the company has also donated two buses to Sindh Transport Department and these would reach Karachi soon.

Zubair assured cooperation of the government to the Chinese company for its investment in the city. He said that the work on federal government-assisted Green Line project is in its final stages of completion for the provision of modern travel facilities in Karachi. The governor was of the view that completion of Lyari Expressway would also facilitate the flow of traffic in the metropolis.
