Doctors shouldn’t forget their oath while on strike: Punjab governor

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Malik Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana acknowledged the right to protest of the doctors however he requested them to remember their oath on such occasions.

The governor, on Saturday, expressed these views while addressing the second Sehat Khidmat Award distribution ceremony organised by the Punjab Health Facility Management Company, Primary and Secondary Health Department.

While acknowledging the extraordinary performance of medical staff, the governor stated that the doctors should be held accountable for the loss of civilian lives during hospital strikes.

The governor further hoped to resolve issues within the medical profession through such awards and lauded the efforts of different health programs for creating awareness

Punjab Minister for Specialised Healthcare Khawaja Salman Rafique was also present on the occasion and shed light on progress achieved in the healthcare sector of Punjab within the last few years.

Salman said that a number of new hospitals and specialised health institutions had been constructed while extension projects were underway at the existing hospitals. He stated that due to such initiatives, routine immunisation coverage had increased in the last two years.

Minister for Primary and Secondary Health Khawaja Imran Nazir and Secretary Health Ali Jan Khan also addressed the ceremony. The minister outlined the provision of free healthcare facilities to a large number of patients in Punjab and lauded the transparency within the healthcare department.

Lahore Lord Mayor Colonel (retd) Mubashar Javaid, Health Special Secretary Dr Faisal Zahoor and other senior officers also attended the function.
