LAHORE: Former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said on Saturday that the criteria for justice in the country are not uniform for everybody as many people facing huge corruption charges are free from accountability.
He was speaking outside an accountability court after a hearing trying him for charges of nepotism.
Ashraf said that institutions needed to work to ensure that everyone received the same standard of justice.
“People facing huge corruption allegations have not been named in the exit control list, whereas my name has been included in it for appointing people in grade 4 vacancies,” he said.
He further said that his party had always respected the judiciary and implemented all its decisions.
Ashraf lamented that the country’s institutions were in a bad state and that there was no trace of governance in the country.
“The country is going through a most difficult time period while institutions are being insulted regularly,” he asserted.
Ashraf was indicted in a reference by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on September 19 on charges of recruiting as many as 437 people in the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) without merit.
Ashraf was among a total of nine people against whom the reference was filed. Others accused include Muhammad Ibrahim, Hashmat Ali Kazmi, Tahir Basharat Cheema, Malik Muhammad Razi Abbas, Saleem Arif, Wazir Ali and Shahid Rafi.
