- Embassy officials confirm over 800 representatives of govts, organisations send best wishes to Chinese president
ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Thursday congratulated Chinese President Xi Jinping on his re-election as the general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
Under the paramount banner of the Communist Party of China, the brave and resilient people of China have travelled a long journey of historic transformation, President Mamnoon said in a message, issued here by the President’s House.
He said that China, under the visionary leadership of President Xi Jinping, has regained its place as a global economic and military power. He said that the achievements of the Chinese people were a source of inspiration and guidance for the developing countries.
He highlighted that the Belt Road Initiative presents a practical solution to the uncertain global economic and political landscape, of which the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a flagship project.
In a separate message, Prime Minister Abbasi acknowledged that the world marvelled at the generational transformation China has achieved since the initiation of the reforms and opening up process in 1978. “China has not only achieved the status of the second largest economy in the world but has also realised the miracle of bringing 700 million people out of poverty in a time span of one generation,” he said.
“China’s efforts to realise a just, equitable and harmonious global governance, based on shared prosperity and win-win cooperation, represent aspirations of the developing world. The Belt Road Initiative and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor are the hallmarks of the spirit of this win-win cooperation,” he said.
The prime minister underscored that the relationship with China enjoys full support from all segments of society in Pakistan. “The people and government of Pakistan stand ready to take the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to new heights,” he said.
In over 800 congratulatory messages, leaders of foreign countries, political parties and organisations also expressed full confidence that the CPC would guide China towards even greater prosperity and a larger role internationally under President Xi’s leadership.
A MISSING MESSAGE: However, Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has been conspicuous by absence as the Chinese Embassy is yet to receive any message from the ruling party’s head in Pakistan. Sources in the Chinese Embassy told Pakistan Today that though the embassy had received congratulatory messages, it was yet to receive the one from the PML-N president.
“Yes, we have received lots of messages and good wishes from across Pakistan. It includes messages of President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, former president Asif Zardari, PTI Chairman Imran Khan and many others,” the sources said.
Asked whether the embassy had not received any message from PML-N chief, they said that the embassy had been informed that a message was being sent. “But we have not received the message yet. Hopefully, we will get one soon,” they said. When contacted, China’s Acting Ambassador Zhao Lijian said that the embassy felt overwhelmed by the volume of the congratulatory messages received on President Xi’s reelection.
WORLD LEADERS’ MESSAGES: Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said that under Xi’s leadership, China has scored glorious achievements in national, social and economic development as well as in improving the people’s welfare.
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that he strongly believed that the implementation of the resolutions of the 19th CPC National Congress would further boost China’s prosperity and development.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen expressed firm belief that under the right and wise leadership of the Communist Party of China and President Xi as the core leader, the Chinese ruling party and Chinese people will certainly achieve goals of the resolution adopted by the 19th National Congress of the party.
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said that he believed that China would continue to play a crucial role in promoting a robust and sustainable growth of the world economy and make greater contributions to the peace and stability of the Asia-Pacific region as well as the whole world.
Italian President Sergio Mattarella said that under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with President Xi as its general secretary, China has set a series of development goals. Cameroonian President Paul Biya offered warmest congratulations and wished Xi greater governance success in the new term.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that since the 18th CPC National Congress, China, under Xi’s leadership, has achieved extraordinary results in every crucial field. The Belt Road Initiative, proposed by Xi, has become an important factor in the recovery of the world economy and regional cooperation, he added.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that Xi’s re-election fully reflects the deep trust of the Chinese people and the CPC of Xi’s wise leadership, which would help boost the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and bring benefits to all of the humanity.
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said under Xi’s wise leadership, China has carried out deliberate social, political and economic reform strategies, and achieved remarkable results in a short period. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said the CPC, in Xi’s new term, would continue to play a leading role in advancing China’s political, economic and social development and raising its international influence.
