Imam-e-Ka’aba attends cabinet meeting on special invitation

ISLAMABAD: Imam e Ka’aba Dr Saleh bin Humaid on Wednesday said that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoyed strong historic and cordial ties, as the South Asian nation always supported his country on different occasions.

He expressed these views in a meeting of the federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. Imam-e-Ka’aba attended the meeting on the special invitation. Dr Humaid expressed his pleasure and gratitude at the invitation extended by the prime minister and providing him an opportunity to address the cabinet.

He conveyed greetings on behalf of the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the crown prince, Islamic scholars and the people of Saudi Arabia. The Imam-e-Ka’aba underscored piety, sincerity and performance as vital ingredients for attaining prosperity and development.

He said that those countries in the world had been in a state of instability which failed to keep unity and harmony among their ranks. He stressed upon further strengthening of the unity and taking decisions in the larger interests of the country, irrespective of personal leanings.

Dr Saleh also recounted his previous visits to Pakistan and said that he always considered it as his home. In the formal proceedings, the meeting ratified recommendations of the Cabinet Committee for Disposal of Legislative Cases in its meeting held on 16-10-2017.

The cabinet decided to place the De-limitation Bill before the National Assembly for debate and consideration. Earlier, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics gave a presentation to the Cabinet on Census, 2017. The cabinet approved the establishment of Drug Court at Quetta and appointment of Justice Aftab Ahmed Gorar as judge of the Special Appellate Court under Section 46(1) of the Prevention of Smuggling Act, 1977 in Sindh.

Appointment of the secretary of the Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunication as chairman of the Management Board of the National Telecommunication Corporation was approved by the cabinet which also assented to the re-constitution of the Board of Governors of the Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC).

The cabinet accorded ex-post facto approval to initiate negotiations and for signing of an agreement on scientific exchange and cooperation between Pakistan Agriculture Research Council and Lanzhou University of China. Amendments in the Rules of Origin (ROO) under Malaysia–Pakistan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (MPCEPA), was also approved.

The cabinet approved signing of MoU between Pakistan and Mozambique in Defence domain. The cabinet accorded approval to sign Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to taxes on income between Pakistan and Republic of Bulgaria.

The cabinet also approved extension in deputation period of Bebu Ram, deputy chief engineer of the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited in Karachi.
