An additional district and sessions court in Lahore on Thursday dismissed an application requesting the filing of a case against Captain (retd) Safdar for his anti-Ahmadi speech.

Joseph Francis filed the application filed which stated that the PML-N leader had spoken in offensive terms against the non-Muslim population of the country.

The petitioner pleaded that police was unwilling to file an FIR against Safdar and requested the court to order the police to do so.

However, the court dismissed the application.

It is crucial to mention here that on October 10, the son-in-law of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, while addressing the National Assembly, had launched a vicious attack against the minority community.

The MNA’s outburst against the Ahmadi community had drawn widespread criticism from almost all the mainstream political parties, including PML-N, and the social circles.

Safdar had also criticised the renaming of Quaid-i-Azam University’s (QAU) physics centre after Professor Dr Abdus Salam, the country’s first Nobel laureate.

“These people [Ahmadis] are a threat to this country, its constitution and ideology. This situation is heading towards a dangerous point,” Safdar had said in his diatribe against the community.
