Dr Aamir Liaquat to join PTI today

KARACHI: Former state minister, a popular TV personality and Islamic scholar Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain is set to join Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The claim was made on Tuesday by PTI’s Central Additional Secretary Information Faisal Javed Khan on Twitter.

According to the central additional secretary, a formal announcement will be made on Wednesday.

“Dr Aamir Liaquat will announce joining PTI at a press conference on 25th OCT 2017 in Karachi,” he said in his tweet.

PTI’s Imran Ismail, in a post on Facebook, said, “Please to announce that Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain joining PTI. Press conference at my house tomorrow [Wednesday] inshallah.”

It is important to mention here that Dr Aamir Liaquat was elected as MNA for the first time in 2002 general election on the ticket of MQM from NA-249 Karachi He was appointed as the minister of state for religious affairs in September 2004.

He was the minister of state for religious affairs until July 2007.

In 2007, Hussain resigned from politics before making a brief return to active politics in 2016. After the controversial speech of MQM founder on August 22, 2016, he quit politics again

He has been hosting shows on a private TV channel since then. He came to fore once again when the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) banned him from appearing on national television for ‘preaching hate’, a decision that was challenged by the Sindh High Court (SHC) but later upheld by the apex court of the country.
